pom poms

"I think pom poms are a great way to trim handmade pieces. You can buy ready-made ones, and you can also buy pom pom-making kits, but it's simple enough to make your own.

Get two pieces of circular cardboard with a central hole cut out of the middle (i.e., something that looks like
a flat doughnut). Hold the pieces together and wrap your yarn around the ring of the 'doughnut', until the whole ring is covered. Cut through the loops of yarn on the outside of the ring (pull the two pieces of cardboard apart and cut the yarn between them). Then take a length of yarn and tie it firmly between the two cardboard pieces. Fasten with a secure knot. Cut out the cardboard pieces, and fluff up the pom pom so it's a nice round shape.

Pom poms make a great finishing touch to a handmade piece, whether made from the same yarn or in some contrast yarn."
